At Monterey Bay Property Management, we believe that honoring history means actively working to build a better future. As we celebrate Juneteenth—a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States—we reflect on the ongoing journey toward racial equity, including in the realm of housing, where disparities still exist today.
What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth, celebrated each year on June 19th, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It is a powerful reminder of the delayed justice many Black Americans have faced and continue to face across many sectors, including housing.
Housing Equality: Still a Dream for Many
Homeownership and access to quality housing remain central to economic opportunity and generational wealth. Yet, Black Americans and other marginalized communities continue to face systemic challenges—from discriminatory lending practices to rising rent costs and a shortage of affordable vacation options.
The legacy of redlining, economic segregation, and unequal access to housing opportunities contributes to ongoing disparities in where people can live, vacation, and invest in their futures.
Our Commitment at Monterey Bay Property Management
At Monterey Bay Property management, we are committed to doing our part to address these inequalities in tangible ways:
- Fair Housing Practices: We proudly support and follow fair housing laws, ensuring that everyone—regardless of race, background, or income—has access to our rental properties without bias or discrimination.
- Accessible Coastal Vacations: We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the beauty of the California coast. That’s why we offer a range of vacation rentals at varying price points, including affordable options designed specifically for families who might not otherwise be able to enjoy a coastal getaway.
- Community Engagement: We actively support local initiatives that promote equity and inclusion, and we are exploring partnerships that help underrepresented groups gain access to vacation opportunities and long-term housing solutions.
- Ongoing Learning: As a company, we understand that equity is not a checkbox—it’s a continuous journey. We’re committed to ongoing education and training to better understand the role we play in fostering inclusive and equitable experiences for our guests, homeowners, and staff.
Looking Ahead
Juneteenth is not just a celebration of freedom—it’s a call to action. At Monterey Bay Property Management, we’re taking this moment to reaffirm our commitment to equity in housing and to do our part in creating more inclusive access to the joys of travel and community.
We invite you to learn more about the significance of Juneteenth and to join us in supporting fair housing for all. Together, we can make the California coast—and the housing market—a more welcoming place for all.
